In December 2022, the European Commission has launched a broad public consultation on the past, present, and future of the EU Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation. According to the European Commission, the survey, which was launched on 1 December, is the largest public consultation ever held on the EU Framework Programmes. It covers both the final evaluation for Horizon 2020 (2014-2020) and the interim evaluation for Horizon Europe (2021-2027), as well as a strategic outlook for the years 2025 to 2027.

All interested individuals and institutions are invited to express their views on the positive aspects and shortcomings of Horizon 2020 and on the implementation of Horizon Europe so far, and to help shape the strategic orientations and priorities for the years 2025-2027.

The consultation will be open until 23 February 2023 and the questions are available in English, German, and French. However, participants can reply in all EU languages. According to the EU Commission, filling out the entire questionnaire takes about 35 minutes but feedback on individual parts of the survey is also possible. An EU login is required to participate. The first results of the survey are expected to be published in the second quarter of 2023.
