New DFG funding for UAS officially launched : Date:

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) has now officially launched the Research Impulses programme that was announced in spring 2022. The funding instrument is specifically designed for universities of applied sciences (UAS). A virtual information event for the first call will take place in November.

The new DFG Research Impulses programme (“Forschungsimpulse”, FIP) is tailored to UAS that are particularly strong in research. It is intended to help further strengthen research at these universities and sharpen their scientific profile.

The programme provides funding for research networks on any topic; the thematic focus can be chosen by the applicants. The maximum funding volume is 1 million euros per year and application. One application can be submitted per university. The funding period will comprise two phases: a first funding period of five years and a potential second funding period of three years. The first call starts in January 2023, and there will be an information event on 10 November 2022.

Research at UAS has developed considerably in recent years. The DFG has taken this into account by reviewing and expanding its funding portfolio over the past two years. FIP complements the existing DFG programmes for UAS on major instrumentation and internationalisation. By implementing the Research Impulses programme, the DFG will spend more than one per cent of its funding budget on UAS, according to a DFG press release.

Detailed information on the information event, the programme, and the application process can be found on the DFG website (see right-hand column).
