According to the motto ‘Shaping Research at Universities of Applied Sciences’, about 350 members of the German UAS community met at Zeche Zollverein in Essen on 4 and 5 September. The Parliamentary State Secretary of the BMBF, Thomas Rachel, opened the conference with a video message.

‘We promote groundbreaking topics, good ideas, innovative research approaches, clever minds and good teaching. All of this distinguishes German universities of applied sciences as regionally anchored engines of innovation,’ Rachel said, underlining the importance of UAS. ‘This benefits the economy and society as well as the citizens in their regions.’

With the Research at Universities of Applied Sciences programme, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) annually provides 60 million euros funding for universities of applied sciences and is also the host of the Future Conference.
