DFG opens Research Training Groups for UAS : Date:
In March 2024, the German Research Foundation (DFG) decided to open its Research Training Groups funding programme to universities of applied sciences (UAS). Thus, the DFG wants to contribute to the quality management of doctorates at UAS. The change will apply from 1 June 2024.
By opening its Research Training Groups programme, the DFG is responding to recent developments at UAS with regard to doctorates. In recent years, more and more UAS have gained the right to award doctorates to students independently or as part of corresponding doctoral programmes such as doctoral colleges. In future, these UAS will also be able to submit proposals to the DFG Research Training Groups programme.
DFG Research Training Groups are institutions at universities or UAS in which researchers are supported in the early stages of their careers. The Research Training Groups are funded for a maximum of nine years and must have a thematically focused research programme and a structured qualification concept. An interdisciplinary orientation is expressly desired.
On 19 April, the DFG is offering an online information event in which the programme, the framework conditions, and the application and decision-making processes will be explained. UAS administrations as well as interested researchers and research coordinators are invited to attend the event. The access link to the web conference will be published on the DFG website a few days in advance. Registration is not required.
